JADE’S REVIEW:

I have to admit, I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the first in the series. There is one thing I liked about it, though. I liked Riley in both books. I liked hearing the story in his voice in this book, even if it seemed a bit over the top at times.

But I’m conflicted. I feel the story was far too short to tackle the issues Riley and Caleb had, both personally and with each other, and I think that those issues were glossed over/resolved too easily as a result. Riley has self-esteem and abandonment issues and is very insecure, and Caleb has his own issues with a traumatic past. (Perhaps all of their issues have not been resolved yet and will be further explored in the other books in the series. However, since each book appears to be largely focused on a different couple, I don’t think there will be any further resolution of note in later books.) These are major issues, often requiring counseling in real life, but Riley and Caleb seem to have worked through them with a few lines of dialogue (most of which appears to be miscommunication, actually) and a whole lot of sex.

Speaking of sex, I still can’t get over the fact that they stopped in the middle of a warehouse that was falling down around them, one of them injured, while on a time-sensitive mission…to have sex. Not only that, but big brother waited until they were finished to tell them to hurry up.

This book was all over the place, and most of the conflict stemmed from miscommunication and misunderstanding between Riley and Caleb. There was a lot of jumping to conclusions and not nearly enough of taking a moment to think/talk through things. That said, this was a “classic romance” in that it hit a lot of tropes. Alpha male…check. Large/small pairing…check. Successful mating…check. Lots of sex…check. HEA/HFN…check. So if you’re into that kind of story, you will probably enjoy this book.
